Sen. Kyrsten Sinema will not seek re-election. She was done by politics and her own ego.

Arizona State Senator. kirsten sinema An announcement has been made that has been clear for some time. She is not running for re-election.

Sadly, she won’t be missed by many in the state.

She became the first Arizona Democrat in three decades to win a U.S. Senate seat, campaigning on a promise to work with everyone to get things done.

Since then, she has done exactly what she promised. She portrayed her middle ground in seeking solutions that would have bipartisan support.

Then she learned a hard lesson.

That’s not what we really want. Or even if it is, it’s not enough.

Senator Kyrsten Sinema: “I promised the people of Arizona something different.”

Kyrsten Sinema forgot the Democrats who helped her

At least sometimes you have to dance with the people who brought you there, but too often the cinema’s dance cards were filled with Wall Street moguls and pharmaceutical giants.

I can’t remember the last time I saw her walking around Arizona with a hoi polloi.

“Kyrsten Sinema has lost the ability to talk to her constituents about politicians who listen to their constituents by having humans answer the phone, holding town meetings, and having an email address where people can contact her.” It has gone so far as to set up a secure firewall for citizens among voters,” said one former Sinema. A supporter told me.

“All of a sudden, we couldn’t make a phone call, we couldn’t reach out, we couldn’t send an email. Those of us who worked to get her elected felt shut down and taken advantage of. ”

It’s a sentiment often heard in the Grand Canyon State. A mere majority vote, along with words of “betrayed” from Democrats appalled that she stuck to the filibuster and wouldn’t allow progressive proposals to come forward after Joe Biden’s presidential election. .

Matt Grodsky, a Democratic consultant, said Sinema might have survived that frustration if she remembered who she sent to Washington.

“Going back to 2019, there was no attempt at all to stay connected to the people who put her there,” he said. “If she had been nearby, her party might have been able to block some of her centrist moves, but the ice spill cost her base.”

He left the Democratic Party and became an independent in December 2022, but by that time he had already left the Democratic Party.

Still, Sinema played an important role in the Senate.

Still, Cinema deserves respect, if not a second season.

She played a key role in some of the most important initiatives passed during one of the most polarizing periods in our history. It’s a bipartisan bill that aims to support veterans, fund infrastructure, combat gun violence, protect same-sex marriage, and boost semiconductor production.

She might even have some control over the US-Mexico border if Donald Trump didn’t need a sledgehammer to bash Joe Biden and the Democrats.

“This is an unparalleled record to continue,” Democratic strategist Stacey Pearson told me recently. “And that’s exactly what she was going to do to her voters.”

Is it too “indistinguishable”? Republicans reject plan to honor late Supreme Court Justice O’Connor.

That’s exactly what centrist voters want…and yet Cinemato was trailing far-right Kari Lake and staunch liberal Ruben Gallego by a wide third. .

That must have been a blow to the ego of the woman who won 9-8 in the election. She suffered her first defeat when she ran for parliament as her Green Party candidate in 2002.

The sad thing is that cinema is right

movie theatre, announce her retirementsounded disillusioned and a bit bitter.

“These solutions are considered failures because they are either too much or not enough,” Sinema said, noting his legislative accomplishments.

“It’s all or nothing. Results are less important than defeating the opponent. The only political victories that matter these days are symbolic ones, attacking your opponent on cable news and social media. Compromise is dirty. It’s a word.”

This is the saddest part.

she’s right.
