PATIALA: Indian National Congress Party leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, who recently stepped down as PPCC president, held a meeting with several senior party leaders, including former and sitting state legislators and MPs, at his Patiala residence on Saturday.
Former AAP MP from Patiala, Dr Dharamvira Gandhi, who supported Sidhu in the recent state assembly elections, also participated in Saturday’s meeting.
Congress leaders claimed that a decision was taken at the meeting to join a meeting of various groups in Bargari protesting against inflation and seeking justice.Party leaders who participated in the meeting, held at Sidhu’s house, included Shamsher Singh Dullo, Santokh Chaudhary, Mohinder Singh Kapy, H.S. Harry Mann, Raminder Singh Gill, S.S. Danny, Navtej Cheema, Gurpreet Singh GP, Hardial Kamboj, Rajinder Singh Samana, former Patiala mayor Vishnu Sharma, Harminder Singh Gill Pati, Mohan Singh Faryanwala, Jagdev Singh Kamal and Sukhpal Singh Kaira’s son.
Former Basi Patana state legislator GP said, “A grassroots leader like Navjot Singh Sidhu should continue as PPCC president. He should be retained and his resignation should not be accepted by the party’s top brass. The meeting was held in Patiala from 1.30 pm to 4 pm.”
Harry Mann, who ran for Congress twice from Sanaur but lost, said, “Congress leaders have raised their voices that Sidhu should be retained as PPCC president. On April 3, the Congress will hold a demonstration in Patiala protesting inflation and on April 4, demonstrations will be held across the state. On April 6, Congress leaders will go to Bargari and take part in a rally demanding justice in the Bargari and Behbal Karan cases. On April 7, a demonstration against inflation will be held in Chandigarh. Besides, Congress leaders will visit grain markets and continue to raise farmers’ issues with the government.”
