Biotechnology and Science Employer Engagement at Brandeis
Employers use a variety of programs to interview students to identify and develop talent. They regularly schedule information sessions, online workshops, case competitions, and on-site visits as options for engaging with Brandeis students and alumni.
Hyatt emphasizes that while on-campus recruiting is part of the employer engagement process, it should not be the primary focus when it comes to attending or participating in employer-led activities. . Students should approach each event as an opportunity to engage, learn, and connect with experts in their desired field.

Student recruitment
Each industry has its own schedule of planned hiring. Not all industries have a large presence on campus. This is because hiring is often done on an as-needed basis, either when a job opening occurs or when there is a hiring plan. Some employers typically have only a small role to play. For labs on and off campus, the most effective way for students to learn about and secure internships and jobs in the field continues to be through direct contact with lab directors, principal investigators, and faculty.
For employers with on-campus recruiting programs, in-person recruiting at universities is on the decline. Employers who previously visited universities as their primary method of recruiting are now changing their strategies.
- Employers favored virtual interviews instead of on-campus interviews for initial screening of candidates, followed by in-person interviews within their organizations.
- Social media is the new on-campus interviewing, and many recruiting organizations are using it for branding and recruiting efforts.
- Employers find LinkedIn to be highly effective in employee branding and recruitment.
Internships and job information
The most popular and effective internship and job search tools are finding positions through online sites such as the Brandeis portal, Handshake, and others. Students can narrow their search based on geographic location, job title, industry, or role. Hyatt also encourages employers (i.e. alumni) with close ties to the university and labels posts accordingly. This gives students more opportunities to connect with organizations and positions that are only looking to hire Brandeis students and alumni.
Current opportunities in handshake
Note: You must have a Handshake account to access the links below (students, alumni, faculty and staff have Handshake accounts).
Handshake is a powerful site, and using labels and filters to narrow down your search makes it easy to navigate.
- DEI Opportunities — Search for roles and opportunities at Handshake with employers looking to hire diverse candidates. Opportunities include national organizations as well as Black-owned businesses.
- Brandeis Connections — Look for jobs with employers that have strong recruiting relationships with Brandeis University and are specifically looking to hire Brandeis University students.
Career achievements in biotechnology and scientific research
The Hyatt Career Center’s annual Beyond Brandeis survey provides insight into the employment and continuing education status of Brandeis University undergraduates within six months of graduation.
Seventy-five percent of 2019 graduates working in the science, research, and pharmaceutical industries completed at least one research experience with a faculty member on campus, and 62% completed at least one internship before graduation. Students can use Handshake to find out where students, including students from other universities, have completed internships.
Brandeis graduates who seek employment in these fields will work for organizations such as Biogen, Massachusetts General Hospital, the Broad Institute, Novartis, and RTI International.
Cooperation with Hyatt

Hyatt supports your professional goals, but we can’t do all the work for you.
Your approach is to be curious and engaged. There is no one-size-fits-all path or plan to follow. You are unique and your success is driven by your curiosity and openness to all possibilities.
