Neil deGrasse Tyson will “appear” for two nights at the Paramount Theater next week. #k5Evening
SEATTLE — He is a Harvard-educated astrophysicist, author, and director of New York’s prestigious Hayden Planetarium. Storytelling scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson is on his way to Seattle for two nearly sold-out shows at the Paramount.
“It’s one of my deepest fan networks,” Tyson said of Seattle’s die-hard fans.
His lectures are suitable for theater settings.
“I call it lecture, but of course it’s ‘performance learning,’ if you want to call it that,” Tyson said.
It combines video and still images with plenty of wit and whimsy.
“I don’t joke,” he said. “But personally, I think space is inherently cheerful.”
Humans are also quite interesting. And Tyson frequently shares his opinions on them.
“You start denying climate change, you start denying the effectiveness of vaccines, you start saying the earth is flat, you start saying we’ve never been to the moon, and if you say those things… “If you feel it and take power, then you will see the dismantling of the civilization that we have worked so hard to build over the past millennia,” he said.
He has issues with billionaire rocket builder Elon Musk, but he also plans to give him his due.
“If you don’t like something Elon says because you think it’s crazy or misogynistic or racist or socially regressive, just say, ‘I know, I don’t like that about him.’ “Tyson said. It basically single-handedly changed our conversation about cars to fundamentally include electric cars. ”
Tyson would like to see humans venture to other planets, but he doesn’t expect it to happen anytime soon.
“I’ll tell you the conditions for us to go to Mars, if China says so.” They want to put military bases on Mars, and we’re going to go there like that,” he said, snapping his fingers.
Until then, we can settle for the fact that some very dedicated scientists will take us into space with pure enthusiasm.
“All kids are curious,” Tyson said. “I was just a kid.”
