Raven Baxter, known to her more than 200,000 followers as “Dr. Raven the Master of Science,” will speak at the Nebraska Union Swanson Auditorium on April 3 at 3:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
Trained as a molecular biologist and science educator, Baxter is on a mission to democratize science, foster curiosity, and bridge the gap between complex scientific concepts and the public. After her hip-hop science videos became viral sensations, she launched the “Black in SciComm” and “Black in STEM Education” movements. She currently serves as Executive Director of Science Haven, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making science an engaging experience for everyone, regardless of scientific knowledge or background.
Baxter will be joined by Jocelyn Bosley, Research Impact Coordinator at the Office of Research and Economic Development, for an informal conversation about her STEM efforts. Challenges and opportunities for building a more diverse and inclusive STEM community. Creative strategies for making science appealing and relevant to a wider audience.
This event is sponsored by Nebraska EPSCoR, with additional support from the School of Biological Sciences, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, and Center for Science, Mathematics, and Computer Education.
