In response to heavy rain and flooding on January 22nd, the City of San Diego will be distributing grants of up to $5,000 starting February 12th to support small businesses and nonprofit organizations.
SAN DIEGO — Starting Monday, in response to the heavy rains and flooding on January 22nd, the City of San Diego will be distributing grants of up to $5,000 to help many hard-hit small businesses and nonprofits.
The City is offering Business Emergency Response and Resiliency Grants to compensate businesses for costs incurred during cleanup, recovery, and loss of inventory or revenue caused by the unprecedented storm.
To qualify, companies must meet all of the following requirements:
- Are you in a San Diego storm-impact area?
- Number of employees is 12 or less
- independently owned and operated
- Have a valid city business tax certificate
Businesses and non-profit organizations located on the first floor will be given priority.
Here are the easy steps to apply for city grants online.
- Visit the city’s website and click to fill out the “Small Business” or “Nonprofit” form.
- Please enter your name, company name, and answer a few questions.
- Finally, list all costs incurred related to the damage and upload photo evidence.
Grants are limited and only 100 are available. Applications are due by February 27th.
Local businesses aiming for recovery
Construction crews are working to repair K St Kreative Studios, which was affected by recent storms.
“I almost swam. The water was up to my waist,” said Rob Harvey, co-owner of K St Kreative Studios. “I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost $2.5 to $300,000.”
“We know these grants are set up to help people like us recover,” Ms Harvey added. “This is just a fraction of the funding we need to get the space back, so I think the more help we can get, the better.”
