When Samsung announced One UI 6 in 2023, it decided, perhaps controversially, to do away with the “since last charge” battery tracking metric. Instead, it has been replaced with statistics showing battery usage over the past 24 hours. Now, it looks like Samsung has decided to bring back the original battery tracking option.
According to Samsung tipster Tarun Vats In X, the new Device Care update (13.8.6.11) reintroduced the “Since last charge” screen. Here users can get information about how long the screen has been on, which apps have been used, and an estimate of how long the battery will last before needing to be charged again.
Samsung has reintroduced the “since last charge” metric, but appears to have decided to keep the “Today” section that lets users know how much battery has been consumed on a given day. Users can decide which method of monitoring battery consumption is most useful.
Device Care updates are not yet available in the Galaxy Store, but will be available soon. In the meantime, anyone longing for the return of this battery tracking tool can sideload it via APKMirror. It’s still unclear why Samsung decided to remove this metric in the first place, but I’m sure many people would be happy to see it return.
This update appears to coincide with the rollout of One UI 6.1. One UI 6.1 launches today in China and will be rolled out to other parts of the world later this week. Initially, One UI 6.1 will cover the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra, and will later be applied to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Tab S9 series.
