The iPhone SE may not be dead after all. Following reports in early 2023 that claimed Apple was discontinuing its affordable product line, we heard in December that the iPhone SE 4 would use the iPhone 14’s battery. Previously, we’ve even seen renders purporting to show the next-gen model with an iPhone XR-like design, complete with a notch.
Today, a new rumor claims that the next iPhone SE will not have a notch and instead Apple has opted to include a dynamic island cutout and various features first seen on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
You can see what it looks like in the image above. The SE will apparently have only one rear camera, and the rest will follow the latest iPhone design. In fact, the new SE is likely to share much of its appearance with the upcoming iPhone 16. The dimensions of the SE are very close to those of the XR.
Even the root of all this warns us to take everything with a pinch of salt, and we should. Apple has been releasing a new SE model every two years, with the latest model dating back to March 2022. So there should be a follow-up next month, but since there’s been no substantive leaks about it, I’m inclined to think Apple needs more time to finish it.
In fact, the next SE could arrive in 2025, when the iPhone 16 launches this fall. It is expected that a BOE display will always be installed during landing.
