Rochester Museum & Science Center enters final week of total solar eclipse preparations

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Single digits in the standings. Starting Monday, we can say there’s only one week left until the solar eclipse. And as the big day approaches, people in our region are finalizing plans for how they’ll watch.

“It’s kind of cool! You know, this is like a big event in the sky, and I won’t tell you how old I am, but it’s a milestone to see another solar eclipse,” Kim said. Escoferi-Voise told News 8.

On Sunday, many families at the Rochester Museum and Science Center were learning more about the total solar eclipse that will occur in just over a week.

Escofery Voys and his family plan to camp in Canandaigua. She said she is excited to share this experience with her son.

“He absorbs this stuff really well. So it’s very educational to see it through his eyes,” Escoferi-Voise said.

Declan, who was at the RMSC on Sunday for the Beyoncé-themed laser show, was keen to talk about his excitement for April 8.

“This is my first time seeing a solar eclipse. I’ve never experienced it before, so I’m really excited,” Declan said.

Dan Schneiderman, RMSC’s Eclipse Partnership Coordinator, says he can’t believe we’re in the final week of preparation. With their children out of school for a week, they are taking advantage of the opportunity to teach their children what’s to come.

“We’re spending two full days camping just for the eclipse. They’re going to do some sun observation and learn as much as they can about the eclipse. They’re going to do some hands-on activities. . All you have to do is enjoy the experience,” Schneiderman said.

Schneiderman added that he hasn’t seen anyone from out of town yet, but many are on the way.

“I’m getting calls, I’m getting emails. I just responded to an email a few minutes ago from people on Long Island asking for tips and tricks,” Schneiderman said.

And those attending Sunday’s RMSC say no matter how you plan to spend the eclipse, be sure to enjoy it.
