European farmers are in dire straits. Input prices are high, product prices are low, and income is insufficient. While overall regulatory and administrative burdens are increasing, pressures are further exacerbated by geopolitical shocks and unfair competition from third countries.
In order to respond to farmers’ concerns and enable them to fully fulfill their irreplaceable role in our society, Renew Europe aims to build a sustainable, competitive and fairly remunerated EU agriculture system. We are launching an action plan.
The action plan sets out a number of short-term measures to help farmers cope with the shocks of global trade, rising energy prices and increased administrative burdens. We also look forward to future directions in several areas of long-term concern, such as the ability of the current Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to respond to climate change and the market crisis, food supply chains and the fair distribution of added value within the EU.
