PS5 bestseller, XS has decreased significantly

PlayStation 5 unit sales decreased by 16,288 units (-3.6%) compared to the same month last year. Xbox Series X|S unit sales decreased by 52,732 units (-42.6%) and Nintendo Switch unit sales decreased by 22,190 units (-10.7%). PlayStation 4 sales decreased by 5,277 units (-81.0%) compared to the same period last year.

Looking at month-over-month sales, PlayStation 5 sales increased by over 1,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales decreased by nearly 31,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales decreased by nearly 59,000 units.

Cumulatively, in 2024, an estimated 870,000 PlayStation 5 units, 430,000 Nintendo Switch units, and 170,000 Xbox Series X|S units were sold.

In most cases, the numbers released by console manufacturers are based on shipping data (sell-in), and a sale is considered once the device leaves the factory and enters the supply chain for delivery. This is why, even after adjustment, there is always a discrepancy between a company’s numbers (sell-in) and VGChartz’s estimates (sell-through). The only exception is if the console is discontinued and the remaining stock is eventually sold out. At that point the numbers will match.
