Google has released the third version of Android 15 beta, marking a milestone in stability for the platform, meaning it includes all the important features and changes for users, as well as some features previously discovered in collaboration with prominent Android sleuths.
With Android experts Android Authority Contributor Mishaal Rahman has confirmed that Android 15 Beta 3 does indeed introduce the Home Control Screensaver that we first reported on back in April. The feature displays a Google smart home control screensaver when your device is idle or charging.
Rahman also revealed that the previously spotted “Show long app names” toggle is now available in this latest beta software. As the name suggests, this lets you decide whether or not to truncate (shorten) the names of apps with long names. Currently, Google truncates these names automatically.
Adaptive timeouts are here, but don’t get your hopes up
Finally, Rahman confirmed that the previously revealed Adaptive Display Timeout feature is in Android 15 Beta 3, but doesn’t seem to work. The feature automatically turns off the screen when you’re not using the device, regardless of the timeout period you specify. This means that, in theory, you could set a longer screen-off period (say, more than two minutes) and still feel at ease because the timeout period is much shorter.
Either way, we now have a pretty good idea of what to expect when the stable version of Android 15 is released later this year. Do you think we’re missing any features that you’d like to see in Android 15? Let us know in the comments.
