As we have reported this morning, a report to the head of British spies within the IRA has concluded that his actions likely resulted in “more lives lost than saved”.

Freddie Scappaticci, codenamed “Stakeknife,” led the IRA’s “Nutting Squad,” whose mission was to hunt down informants, but he also worked as a spy for British intelligence.

A seven-year investigation found that security forces are frequently aware of impending kidnappings and murders but fail to protect those at risk.

As a result, preventable deaths occurred without the perpetrator’s knowledge, and those responsible were not brought to justice, leaving them free to commit the crime again.

You can read more here:

Responding to the interim report published by Northern Ireland Police this morning, Northern Ireland Commissioner Chris Heaton-Harris said the investigation would provide “long-standing answers to what exactly happened when loved ones died”. “We have gained the trust of many families who have asked for it.” They were very brutally murdered by and on the orders of the Provisional IRA. ”

He said more than 3,500 people were killed in the unrest, including more than 1,000 members of the security forces.

“We must also remember that the majority of the deaths during the unrest, around 90%, were committed by terrorist organizations. This report is attributable to the Provisional IRA.”

However, the Secretary of State said that because the report was a preliminary report, “on behalf of the Government we will not be commenting on the details of the report at this stage.”

“This document contains some specific and very serious allegations that will be subject to consideration by the court,” he said.

“It would be inappropriate for the government to comment on the contents of the interim report until the litigation related to it has concluded.”

“I would like to once again express my deepest condolences to all the families who have lost loved ones during this turmoil, including as a result of the actions of the Provisional IRA,” he concluded.
