Peter Navarro will arrive in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., in September 2023.

Former President Trump adviser Peter Navarro must report to a federal prison in Miami by March 19 to begin serving a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress, his lawyer announced Sunday. .

“Dr. Navarro is now ordered to report to the custody of the FCI Miami Bureau of Prisons by 2:00 PM EDT on March 19, 2024,” Navarro’s attorney said in a court filing. He mentioned an insecure prison in Florida. .

Earlier this year, Navarro was found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress and sentenced to four months in prison. He has been trying to avoid reporting to prison during his appeal against his conviction, but so far his efforts have been unsuccessful.

U.S. District Judge Amit P. Mehta last month ordered him to prison after rejecting his request for release, and a federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., is currently considering a similar request. Mr. Navarro argued that Mr. Mehta’s decision not to raise the presidential privilege defense at trial was a mistake, and that the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals could overturn that decision, so that Mehta’s decision not to raise the presidential privilege defense at trial was a mistake and that Mehta’s decision not to raise the presidential privilege defense at trial is likely to be reversed by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals when the court considers his case. They argue that he should be kept out of jail.

“Dr. “This is a complex issue rife with “serious questions,”” his attorney wrote in the filing.

The Justice Department told the appeals court last week that Navarro’s request should also be denied, saying he was raising “baseless arguments” that were unlikely to ultimately change the outcome of the criminal case. Ta.

Navarro was found guilty in September of two counts of contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a subpoena from the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
