The first recipient of the award was Eddie Duran, who is scheduled to graduate with honors in 2024.

Eddie released art cycle kidsa program that uses bicycles to teach children teamwork.

“We desperately need organizations like Florida Tech to support Black-owned businesses,” said Tanisha Nangaly, president of the African American Chamber of Commerce.

The plan is to give back to local Black leaders through the Black Opportunity Scholarship, helping those who don’t have opportunities and providing resources that will likely never be available.

“Nationally, Black-owned businesses account for 3% of all U.S. businesses. However, Blacks make up 12.4% of the adult population. We see a huge disparity between the numbers,” Nunn-Gary said.

Full-tuition scholarships, valued at up to $61,178, are awarded to individuals interested in starting a new business in the community.

“We want to do our part to help people in business succeed, and this scholarship is just one of the ways we believe we can do that.” ”Nangaly said.

The deadline for scholarship applications is February 12, 2024.
