Each major new version of Android improves the efficiency, privacy, and security of your devices. This year, Google announced Android 15 at the Google I/O 2024 event, which brings improvements in the same areas. Android 15 has been revealed to improve battery life for devices in standby mode.

Android 15 (One UI 7) can extend the battery life of your Galaxy smartphone by up to 3 hours

In conversation with Mishaal Rahman (via Android Authority), Dave Burke, VP of Engineering, Android Platform, and Sameet Samat, President, Android Ecosystem, discuss how Google is improving battery life with Android 15. We explained how we achieved this. Doze mode was introduced in Android 6.0. This is the period during which the device performs some background tasks when the device is in standby mode for an extended period of time. It has been improved in Android 15.

It has been revealed that Google has increased the speed at which devices switch into Doze mode by 50%. This means that devices running Android 15 will enter Doze mode 50% faster than devices running Android 14. As a result, some of his Android smartphones have improved battery life by up to 3 hours in Google’s own tests. This change is core to Android 15, so all devices running this new version of Android will benefit from it.

These improvements are coming to Galaxy smartphones and tablets with the One UI 7.0 update based on Android 15. Samsung has already started internal beta development of One UI 7.0 for Galaxy S24. The One UI 7.0 beta program will begin during the third quarter of this year, with a stable update likely to be released in the fourth quarter of 2024. Galaxy S24 will be the first product to have access to One UI 7.0.

You can watch our review of the Galaxy S24 in the video below. Story continues after video.

One UI Watch 6.0 (Wear OS 5) may also improve battery life on Galaxy Watch

Google also improved battery life in Wear OS 5, which was announced at the Google I/O 2024 event a few days ago. According to the company, smartwatches equipped with Wear OS 5 can reduce power consumption by up to 20% during workouts such as marathons. This improvement was made by reducing the time it takes for the smartwatch’s main application processor to wake up and go back to sleep.

This allows the coprocessor to take over some background tasks faster, such as collecting data from sensors. The coprocessor is significantly more power efficient, resulting in lower power consumption and longer battery life for Wear OS smartwatches. This improvement will also come to Galaxy Watch with the One UI Watch 6.0 update later this year.
