This week, One UI 6.1 is rolling out to many of Samsung’s 2023 devices. Starting Thursday, Samsung Galaxy S23 series (including S23 FE), Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series will all start updating their Samsung software skins to the latest Android 14-based build. One UI 6.1 includes expected minor changes. point In addition to the update, we will be adding a number of AI-based features.
Samsung previously said this update would be rolled out in late March, so this isn’t too surprising since there are only a few days left this month. Still, it’s good to know that Samsung is delivering on its promises. This update will roll out to all three sizes of the S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 starting Thursday, March 28th.
Samsung says this update will be available for both unlocked and carrier versions of all these devices. This makes sense, but it also means that hopefully your carrier’s updates won’t lag too far behind those on your unlocked phone or tablet.
What’s new in One UI 6.1?
All of One UI 6.1’s notable new features are AI-based. The latest version of Samsung’s Android skin comes with the company’s Galaxy AI suite. This includes features like live translation of calls with AI. Chat Assist for Samsung keyboards. Gives you tools to adjust your grammar and tone. AI-powered photo editing features in the Samsung Gallery app.
One UI 6.1 also brings Circle to Search, the Google-branded visual search feature first introduced on the S24 series, to all devices listed above. Circle to Search is not a Galaxy AI feature and is also available on Pixel 8 and Pixel 7 phones, but it’s still a nice new addition to older phones.
According to a January report from TechRadar, there are currently no expectations for Samsung devices before 2023 to come with Galaxy AI capabilities. That’s a shame, but if you own an S22 or Tab S8 in good condition, I don’t think the One UI 6.1 enabled AI features are worth the upgrade at all.
