Fury disputed his loss after the fight, saying: “I think I won that fight. I think he won a few rounds, but I won most of them.”

“His country is at war, so people are siding with the country at war. Don’t get me wrong, in my opinion, I won that battle.”

In response, Usyk said, “I’m ready for a rematch,” but then added, “I’m not thinking about a rematch right now. I want to rest.”

The 37-year-old Ukrainian is the first boxer to hold all four heavyweight belts simultaneously and the first undisputed champion in 24 years.

He’s the best fighter of his generation, there’s nothing left – Analysis by Jackie Beltrao

There’s something very special about Oleksandr Usyk that all great athletes have. It’s the ability to find that extra bit of grit and dig a little deeper when the fight is about to end.

That’s exactly the character he showed, coming back at Fury with some impressive shots in the seventh and eighth rounds, taking the sting out of Fury’s comeback and swinging the momentum back his way. . And those incredible nine rounds allowed him to get the kill. Fury looked stung and looked confused, but was lucky that the referee didn’t stop the fight on the spot.

It was great to see Fury go all the way. It took courage. But it’s hard to see how he will recover from this situation. It’ll hurt. He says he wants to trigger the rematch clause and go one more time, but does he really want to do that?

Would Usyk want to do that? He’s the best fighter of this generation, he has nothing to prove. No fighter has ever won the undisputed World Cruiserweight Championship followed by the undisputed Heavyweight Championship. He will be able to safely take all four belts back to Kiev, knowing that his feat is unlikely to be matched by anyone anytime soon.

Last night Fury weighed 262 pounds (18th place 10 pounds), nearly three stone heavier than Usyk, who hit a career-high of 223 pounds (15th place 13 pounds).

Fury refused to look at his opponent at Thursday’s press conference but didn’t back down at last night’s weigh-in. almost got hit before being separated by his entourage.

The appearance of the Cossack warrior and the “Gypsy King”

Usyk was the first to arrive at the ring dressed as a Cossack warrior.

Fury went into a song by Barry White and Bonnie Tyler, and the “Gypsy King” danced on stage for a few minutes before the song changed to “Holding Out for a Hero.”
