Officials said a phone threat made Wednesday against Henderson ISD was traced out of the country.
“At approximately 8:15 a.m., the Henderson Police Department received information regarding a possible threat to the school,” Henderson ISD spokesman David Chennault said in a statement. “Information was relayed to us through a third party that was in contact with the person making the threat. Police became aware of the district and immediately assisted in increasing security at all of the district’s campuses.”
The campus lockdown was lifted around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, and students returned to their normal class schedule, Chenault said.
Henderson Police launched an investigation and worked with the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and FBI to attempt to locate the person who made the threat.
“Ultimately, it was determined that the phone used in the threat was actually located in Europe and not on or near the HISD campus,” Chenault said in a statement.
He said it’s “unfortunate” that the district has to deal with a situation like this.
“The understanding and cooperation of HISD families, especially during this stressful time, underscores our community’s commitment to always doing what is best for our children,” he said.
