NORWAY — “Thank you for all you have done to change your own life, not only to help the American Heart Association achieve its goal of promoting longer, healthier lives, but also to impact those around you. We appreciate it. Thank you so much.”
Following remarks from Tim Gatz, Director of Development for the American Heart Association (AHA) in Maine, Norway Savings Bank team members gave a thunderous round of applause to Aaron Johnson, Systems Engineer III at NSB. Johnson is the 2024 recipient of the AHA Lifestyle Transformation Award and was presented with a commemorative plaque during a special ceremony attended by many of his colleagues in Norway on Tuesday, June 11.
“The award recognizes individuals who have made positive changes or inspired others to make positive changes to improve their quality of life and health,” Gatz said.
“I have a rare, genetic blood-clotting disorder that is difficult to manage with medication and diet,” Johnson said. “Since joining NSB, I’ve participated in the bank’s award-winning wellness program and have made living a healthier lifestyle a priority.”
That decision not only improved his life, but it also inspired those around him.
“Aaron regularly organizes hikes and group activities for team members and encourages others across the bank to participate,” said Tricia Brooks, vice president of HR compliance and benefits administration. “His inspiring story illustrates not only the physical benefits of staying active, but also the benefits of improving mental health and team morale through social connection. We are so grateful to Aaron and his commitment to improving his own health and the well-being of others.”
Aaron will be interviewed later this summer as part of WMTW-TV (Channel 8 in Portland)’s “Heart Health 8” series to share his story, which will no doubt inspire countless others.
“I am honored to receive this award and thrilled to have received such a positive response to practicing healthy behaviors and encouraging others to get involved,” Johnson said. “I am grateful to work for an organization that not only understands the importance of wellness, but also promotes and celebrates it.”
