Not receiving notifications on your Galaxy S24? Here’s the fix

What you need to know

  • On the Galaxy S24, Samsung has disabled notification categories by default, impacting how some users receive notifications.
  • You’ll need to go to Settings and enable notification categories, then adjust notifications for individual apps.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S24 will run One UI 6.1 out of the box, which will eventually arrive on other Samsung smartphones as well.

Unlike other people here on Android Central, I every Single phone released. But I’ve been lucky enough to at least test some of the best Android smartphones released over the years.

After picking up my Galaxy S24 Ultra on launch day, I started noticing that I wasn’t receiving notifications for various apps. This obviously isn’t a big deal for some apps, but I couldn’t get a notification if someone sent me something in Messenger, and Gmail notifications were virtually non-existent. .

I thought it had something to do with Samsung’s obnoxious battery protection software mechanism and was actually considering returning the S24 Ultra. It was the first time I remembered an article about notification categories by the folks at Android Police.

For those who don’t know, notification categories are Samsung’s slightly rebranded version of “notification channels” that started with Android Oreo. This gives users more control over the notifications that apps can send. An example of this is being able to receive notifications when your favorite YouTube channel publishes new videos, but turning off “product update” notifications.

As Android Police pointed out, One UI 6.1 automatically turns off this long-standing feature. By doing so, it messes up even the most basic functions of your phone, such as notification pop-ups. I’ve noticed that in some cases, some apps just display an icon in the status bar without actually sending an “alert.”

Sure enough, I spent about 45 minutes trying out all the different apps. I need Set notifications to work out of the box I think that. If you’re like me and want notifications sent to your phone, once they arriveyou need to do the following:

1. setting Mobile phone app.

2. Tap notification.

3. Tap Advanced settings.

4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and enable it. Manage notification categories per app.

12. Tap the toggle next to Show as popup.

Repeat these steps for any other apps that are installed but aren’t receiving notifications. Trust me, this is beyond annoying and is probably only being done to improve the battery, but it needs to stop. The app is going to send notifications and should have started To the user Decide whether to turn off notifications.
