Bay University is excited to be the host of the 2024 SkillsUSA Regional Competition.
Top career and technical students from across the Upper Peninsula will compete in a variety of skill categories on Friday, February 9, 2024. This day coincides with His SkillsUSA Week, which is celebrated annually by His SkillsUSA chapters across the country. The theme of this year’s SkillsUSA contest is “No Limits.”
Competitors gather on campus to showcase their skills and talents in the areas of automotive, computer maintenance technology, precision machining technology, and welding. Students are competing for scholarships and a spot in the state-wide competition to be held April 12-14 in Grand Rapids. During the competition, students are graded and receive feedback from university faculty, high school instructors, and local local business representatives who donate their time to support students.
Bay University will award four $2,500 scholarships to students who place first in the overall category and four $1,000 scholarships to students who place second in the overall category.
“This event aligns perfectly with Bay University’s focus on helping close the skills gaps that exist by training individuals for highly skilled, high-wage, high-demand jobs.” Bay University Business・Mark Heim, Dean of the School of Technology, said:
SkillsUSA is a national organization serving high school and college students with professional members enrolled in training programs for technical, skilled, and service occupations (including high school and college/professional health occupations). We offer The SkillsUSA program includes local, state, and national competitions where students demonstrate vocational and leadership skills.
