The Washington Nationals are set to play their first home game of the new season on April 1st, and this year the team is showing off some futuristic technology that will welcome fans when they arrive.

Fans no longer need to present a ticket to enter the stadium.

All they have to do is show their face.

This is called “Go-Ahead Entry” and allows you to enter Nationals Park using facial recognition technology.

“If you register through the app, you can go through a dedicated lane and basically skip the line,” said Thomas Kildahl, executive director of ticket services for the Nationals.

Fans can register by logging into the MLB Ballpark app and following the on-screen instructions to take an image of the user’s face.

Then, when you arrive at the stadium, simply go through the entrance marked “Go-Ahead Entry” and the camera will scan your face and identify you.

“As soon as you register, you’ll be set up and ready to get through the gate right away,” Kildahl said. “We will be placing QR codes around the park so people can register on the spot.”

Not all stadium entrances are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, so fans who don’t want to participate don’t have to.

Get your own World Series ring

The team also announced Monday that fans will soon have the opportunity to get their very own World Series championship ring.

This is a replica of the 2019 championship rings that the players earned after the Nationals defeated the Houston Astros.

“We designed it to mirror the rings presented to players and officials in 2019,” said Lindsey Norris, the team’s senior director of promotions and events.

The ring shines in the sunlight and looks real from a distance.

It will be given away to the first 20,000 fans who attend the game on April 20th.

“It has blue, red and white rhinestones,” Norris said. “It also comes with a nice little ring holder so fans can display it with their memorabilia.”
