Apple has patented a new accessory that can store your credit cards, charge your iPhone, and be worn around your wrist or neck.
Accessories like new luggage labels designed by Apple
Apple’s FineWoven iPhone case may not have been the most well-received one the company has made, but that hasn’t stopped people from finding new accessories. Apple is proposing an accessory that looks like an oversized luggage tag in a newly granted patent called “Accessory Devices for Electronics.”
As shown in the patent drawings, the accessory is a holder for an iPhone, possibly with a strap to attach it to luggage or something similar. However, depending on the size and length of the strap, this can also be a strap or a way to attach your iPhone to your wrist.
”[This is] “An accessory for carrying portable electronic devices and other personal items (such as credit cards),” the patent states. “When an accessory device carries an electronic device, the accessory device can communicate with and use the electronic device.” Adjust display capabilities according to the capabilities of the accessory device. ”
It goes on to say, “Accessory devices can also facilitate wireless charging of electronic devices while concealing or concealing structural features (magnets, structural layers, etc.) used to increase wireless charging efficiency.” There is.
There are variations in the proposal, but generally Apple describes it as having a “pocket configured to accept a portable electronic device (iPhone).” Pockets may have openings to help with wireless charging.
Apple also wants this accessory to be active in that it communicates with the iPhone inside. The iPhone will then be able to “identify the accessory device and some of its features, such as the location of the opening.”
That means the iPhone can choose to display “visual information on the display at a position corresponding to the aperture so that the visual information is visible through the aperture.”
Additionally, accessories can be identified so that the iPhone keeps a record of the “accessory thickness and material composition.” This allows iPhone to more accurately and reliably determine charging characteristics, such as the time required to charge the battery.
Many of the patent drawings include MagSafe positioning
The drawing shows various openings for the MagSafe connection, for example. It also shows a structural “or reinforcement” layer, which Apple says helps with wireless charging.
The drawings inevitably remind me of luggage tags, but the text description makes it sound like Apple is trying to make a small bag.
”[The accessory] “The accessory device 100 is designed to carry and support portable electronic devices including, by way of non-limiting example, smartphones and tablet computing devices. Additionally, the accessory device 100 is designed to carry and support a user’s personal items such as credit cards, hotel etc. “It’s designed to hold.” Non-limiting examples include cards, cash, etc. ”
This patent is the work of four inventors, including Sara Rusignuolo. Her Apple work to date includes several patents and applications for iPhone accessory cases.
Note that Apple files hundreds of patents every year. However, even if approved, there is no guarantee that the products described will ever be released.
