Registration is now open for the São Paulo School of Advanced Sciences on Fourth Generation Synchrotron Technology (SyncLight 2024). It will be held from October 14 to 25, 2024 at the Brazilian Center for Energy and Materials Research (CNPEM) in Campinas, São Paulo.brazil state

Reporters are invited to contact the organizing committee via email events@cnpem.brprovides the opportunity to visit schools and sessions.

Held through São Paulo School of Advanced Sciences (SPSAS) https://espca.fapesp.br/home/) program, FAPESP (https://bv.fapesp.br/en/auxilios/113004/), this event brings together young researchers from Brazil and abroad to discuss the recent opportunities offered by the advanced experimental synchrotron technology available at Sirius, Brazil’s fourth generation light source based in Campinas. The purpose is

Over the past few decades, synchrotron light sources have played an important role in the development of modern natural science and engineering. With a wide range of experimental techniques available, synchrotron light sources have revolutionized the way scientists study and characterize materials in fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, health, energy, new materials, and environmental science.

The school will benefit from a roster of speakers comprised of highly regarded researchers in the field, including Ana Diaz of the Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland). Guimei Wang, from the US National Synchrotron Light Source II. From Hoi-Ying N. Holman, Advanced Light Sources at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, USA. Tannaz Pak, from Teesside University (UK). Chris Jacobsen and Daniel Haskel from Argonne National Laboratory (USA). Kejin Zhou, from the Diamond Light Source at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus (UK). Tobias Schuli and Narayan Teyencher from the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France.

The school will select approximately 100 applicants, including 50 from Brazil and 50 from other countries. The school’s target audience consists of recently graduated researchers, master’s/doctoral students, and early career postdoctoral researchers. Over the course of two weeks, participants will watch lectures covering a variety of topics, including an introduction to synchrotron radiation accelerators and experimental techniques using the Sirius beamline.

The event program includes lectures, poster sessions, and guided tours of the facility. It is also planned that LNLS researchers will provide tutorials on the conducted experiments, demonstrations on accelerator control, and data analysis and simulations at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS) beamline.

Candidates should check the required documents and visit the school website (https://pages.cnpem.br/synclight2024/registration/) until April 15, 2024.

Registration for SyncLight 2024 is free and the official language of the event is English. Students living outside the state of São Paulo can apply for financial aid that covers travel and accommodation costs.
