Even though Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2.1 is a point release focused on bug fixes, there are some changes for users.

Android webcam high quality mode

High quality mode disables power optimization to improve webcam quality. Using this mode can result in significant power consumption and cause the device to heat up.

Warning: Prolonged use at high temperatures may adversely affect the long-term battery health of this device.

No OTA for manual sideload

In Beta 2, Google has “temporarily disabled OTA image downloads until we can further troubleshoot” sideloading issues where “devices may not boot properly after sideloading completes.” On-device OTA rolled out quickly, and Beta 2.1 is no different.

Issue resolved

  • We fixed an issue where the device launcher could crash when trying to view recent apps. (Issue #328803294)
  • We fixed an issue where Pixel Tablet devices might not charge when connected to a dock. (Problem number 299800125)
  • Fixed an issue where you might not be able to return to the home screen by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
  • We fixed an issue where the layout of notifications on the lock screen displayed additional padding.
  • Fixed various issues that were frequently causing “Application not responding” errors in both system and user apps.
  • We fixed an issue where the notification shade might not appear when you swipe down from the top of the screen.
  • We fixed an issue on Pixel Fold devices where only half of the inner screen might display content when the device is unfolded.
  • Fixed an issue where a user’s wallpaper settings might not be backed up properly.
  • We fixed an issue where the “Quick tap to start action” gesture could sometimes stop working.
  • Fixed various other issues that were impacting system stability, performance, connectivity, interactivity, and cameras.
