Nebraska Science Festival begins soon, offering weeks of activities • Nebraska Examiner

LINCOLN — The annual Nebraska Science Festival was started 10 years ago by the University of Nebraska Medical Center, a statewide event aimed at showing in a fun way how science is intertwined in the lives of adults and children. will begin soon as part of the.

The festival, which runs through April, offers a wide range of activities, from a “Become a Storm Spotter” night event on March 26 at the University of Nebraska Omaha campus to a month-long moonwalk challenge.

UNMC, the state’s public medical research center, started the festival in 2013 and has since received support from many organizations. The goal, the sponsors say, is to make science accessible, interactive and relevant for children and adults alike.

The festival website has a detailed list of activities. Many are free, but some require reservations through their website. A sample is shown below.

  • Omaha Science Cafe – On April 2, at 7 p.m., Max Kurtz, a scientist at the Boystown Human Neuroscience Institute, said: Current “The Brain” that Heals Itself” at Throwdown in Omaha. The free event is open to anyone over the age of 21.
  • UNL Student Observatory Open House – Observe the stars, planets, and moon from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus on the nights of April 5th and 19th.
  • science sundae – Omaha Riverfront will offer family-friendly hands-on science activities every Sunday in April from 1-2 p.m., while supplies last.
  • Observing the Great American Eclipse at Branched Oak Observatory – Visit the observatory in Raymond, Nebraska, on April 8th from noon to 3:30 p.m. to get an “up close” look through the safety of our solar telescope.
  • Introduction to falconry – April 11th 6pm, event about aThe ancient sport of falconry at the Kearney Public Library.
  • wild bird walk – April 16th, 8-10 a.m. Bird Guide Tour of Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Trails in Denton, Nebraska.
  • boys town hall of history – various topics, Everything from comic books and magnifying glasses to windmills and blueprints are offered at various times and days on the Omaha campus.
  • Lucky Bucket Brewing Tour in La Vista – Take a Saturday tour and learn how science plays a role in beer production.
  • Return of Thunderbird – April 13th from 10am to 3pm Lincoln Indian Center Inc. is hosting a cross-cultural community event to celebrate the return of rain, thunder, spring and bird migration.
