Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates for the mayor and deputy mayor posts in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) are expected to win unopposed.
Yogesh Behl, spokesperson of NCP’s Pimpri-Chinchwad unit, said in an interview to TOI, “During a meeting with the newly elected corporate officers of the party, NCP chief Ajit Pawar said that people should vote for local body elections. He said he has given the party the power to oppose them.There is no need to compete for the mayor and deputy mayor positions.”
“Datta Sane, Vaishali Godekar and Vittal Kate aka Nana have expressed their desire to become the Leader of the Opposition,” Behl added.
Shiv Sena corporate group leader Rahul Karate said, “We will not contest the mayoral and deputy mayoral elections as the Congress does not have numbers.” In the 128-member House, there are 36 corporators representing the NCP, while the Sena has nine corporators and the MNS has one corporator. There are five independent employees within the company.
The elections for Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be held at a special general meeting on March 14. Current mayor Shakuntala Darade’s term ends on March 12. This post is reserved for OBC candidates for the first two-and-a-half years.
