We have good news for you. There are several ways to observe the solar eclipse from the comfort of your home. Here’s how:

If you can’t get to the best location to view the eclipse, there are several options to consider.
NASA will live stream the eclipse from 1 to 4 p.m. ET on NASA+ and social media feeds including YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch. NASA says the livestream will include views from across the road, expert commentary, live demonstrations and more.
The U.S. Space Force is also offering a live stream of the eclipse, courtesy of NASA, starting at 1 p.m. Space Force will also post a live blog of the event.
Another option is the Exploratorium. The site offers several livestream options, including live coverage from Junction, Texas, and telescopic views from Torreon, Mexico.
Like this publication, USA TODAY, which is owned by Gannett, will also live stream the eclipse.
Can you view the solar eclipse using regular sunglasses? Why do I need solar eclipse glasses?
If you don’t wear proper eye protection or take other safety precautions to view the eclipse, the sun can burn your eyes and damage your retinas. Astronomers and other experts say those viewing the eclipse will need to wear special glasses made to protect sensitive retinas from permanent damage. That means eclipse glasses.
This damage occurs because the natural human response of squinting when looking at direct sunlight is not triggered when a partial solar eclipse occurs.
So did a Staten Island woman who watched the 2017 solar eclipse using defective glasses, causing severe damage to her retinas. Physicians at Mount Sinai’s New York Eye and Otorhinolaryngology Clinic documented this fortunately rare case in the medical journal JAMA Ophthalmology. The woman told doctors she was looking at the moon passing in front of the sun through what appeared to be safety glasses. She had what appeared to be damage to her left retina (the area at the back of her eye where her brain receives images) in the form of a partial solar eclipse.
“This is a very focused beam of high-energy light from the sun itself,” Dr. Avnish Deobhakta, an ophthalmologist at Mount Sinai Clinic who treated the woman, told USA TODAY. Destroy it in the form of a solar eclipse. ”
Can I watch the solar eclipse on my phone?
Just like you protect your eyes when viewing a solar eclipse by wearing solar eclipse glasses, you should protect your phone when taking photos of an eclipse.
If you’re taking casual photos with your phone before and after totality, protect your lenses by using solar film or by holding eclipse glasses over them. It’s easier to keep your protection on during a totality, but just as eclipse glasses can fall off your eyes during a brief moment of totality, the same goes for your phone’s lens.
