Mox Golf Coach Blaine Woodruff Coaches Team USA at Junior World Cup

CHATTANOOGA—The Mock Tribe of Chattanooga has been dipping their toes into international waters for years. Male golfers from all over Europe come to this picturesque city to build their golf careers while receiving an excellent education. Now the show is in the opposite position.

Coach Blaine Woodruff is heading overseas to coach Team USA at the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup. The event will be held from June 19th to 22nd at Chukyo Golf Club in Toyota City.

“I am very honored to have the opportunity to lead the team in Japan,” Woodruff said. “It is very humbling to represent your country and the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup is a great event. I will do my best to bring home the cup.

“Just as important, this is an opportunity for our young men and women to experience another country and culture. It’s also a great learning experience for them, along with a chance to compete on the world stage.”

Twelve countries/continents are represented.

  • Men: USA, Australia, Colombia, England, South Korea, Sweden, 2 combined teams from the African continent and 2 combined teams from Central America/North America/Caribbean)
  • Women: USA, Australia, Netherlands, Peru, South Africa, Spain, 2 joint teams from Central America/Caribbean)

The Toyota Junior World Cup has been held in the United States for more than 30 years and has won nine titles up to the most recent edition in 2017. In a 72-hole stroke play format, teams win trophies for his first, second and third place. There is also an individual medalist round.

The format is three players on each team. Each day, the top two scores of the three entries will count towards the team’s total.

In 2023, Japan dominated the men’s and women’s titles, with Canada runner-up in the men’s race and the United States a close second in the women’s race. The list of major champions who are alumni of the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup includes three past Masters winners: Hideki Matsuyama, Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm. Also included are Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Cameron Smith, Danny Willett, Charles Schwartzel (2011 Masters) and Louis Oosthuizen (2010 British Open).

On the women’s side, three recent entrants: Japan’s Tsubasa Kajitani (2021), 2022 champion Anna Davis (USA), and American Rose Chan (2023) will compete at Augusta National Women’s I won as an amateur. Chan made history shortly after her appearance, becoming the first player in 71 years to win an LPGA event in her professional debut.

Along with Scheffler, Team USA alumni include Hunter Mahan, Ted Orr, David Gossett, Cameron Champ, Cameron Young, Bud Corey, Kevin Chappell, Russell Henry, Patton Kizzia, Luke List, and Andrew. -Includes Putnam, Kyle Stanley, and Norman Tzion.
