SARASOTA, Fla. – March 31, 2024 – Mote Ocean Institute & Aquarium is proud to announce important developments in the development of the Mote Science Education Aquarium (Mote SEA) at Nathan Benderson Park. Since breaking ground on November 13, 2020, we have been diligently preparing the site, a key milestone in our journey towards establishing this important cultural, educational and economic asset. .
Mote SEA represents a commitment to empowering the next generation of ocean managers. Through immersive experiences, hands-on learning opportunities, and educational initiatives, we aim to deepen the public’s understanding of ocean science and raise awareness of the importance of the ocean in sustaining life on Earth. .
Our ambitious campaign, Oceans for All: Improving access to ocean science and technology, highlights our commitment to building a more inclusive and informed society. Locating Mote SEA at Nathan Benderson Park in the heart of Sarasota and Manatee counties will ensure access for diverse communities locally and globally.
Specifically, Mote SEA will serve as a regional hub for marine science and technology education, providing enriching experiences for K-12 students and inspiring the next generation of scientists and innovators. This strategic initiative aligns with our mission to promote ocean literacy and advance scientific knowledge.
In addition, the creation of Moat SEA allows us to reimagine our main campus on Sarasota’s City Island as an enhanced international marine science, technology and innovation park. This transformation further strengthens our commitment to advancing ocean research, conservation and sustainable development globally.
