Several Eagles have been recognized for the quality of preparation in Morehead State University’s science programs.
Ten MSU students received top rankings for their research presentations at the Kentucky Academy of Sciences’ 2023 Annual Meeting, held this November.
The students whose presentations were included among the top scorers selected for special recognition are:
- Zoe Baker (Sr., Biology, Scottsville) and Caitlin Centers (Sr., Biology, Ashland): “Age, growth, and growth of highland shiners (Notropis micropteryx) in the Rockcastle River, Kentucky. reproductive cycle.”
- Shelby Black (senior, biology, Somerset) and Jared Bice (junior, biology, Flemingsburg): “Minnow Life History: Growth and Reproduction of the Popeye Shiner (Notropis aliomus) in the Rockcastle River, Kentucky ”.
- Julia Fitzpatrick, graduate student, biology, Lexington: “Characteristics of sandstone rock refugia in Kentucky and their effects on vascular plant community composition.”
- Brannon Jones, senior astrophysics, Lexington: “Updated investigation of candidate radio supernova remnants and their properties in nearby galaxies.”
- Ethan Newsome, Princeton University Biomedical Sciences Senior: “Identification of DdrR-interacting proteins by two-hybrid system assays.”
- Andrew Russell, Senior Psychology, Corydon; Brandi Stone, Senior Psychology, Wootton: “Parental Behavior and Teen Self-Compassion.”
- Mara Stout, Chemistry-Biomedical Sciences Senior, Shepherdsville: “The Role of Topoisomerases in Circular Chromosomal Strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.”
More than 600 students and professional scientists from around the state attended the annual meeting held at Northern Kentucky University. A panel of scientists judged the students’ research presentations and gave special recognition to the top scorers who earned his 25 points or higher on the scoring rubric.
“The presentations at this year’s conference demonstrate that Kentucky students are adding to the world’s scientific knowledge in meaningful ways,” said Amanda Fuller, executive director of the Kentucky Academy of Sciences. Stated. “The breadth of topics explored and the exceptional quality of the students’ research highlight the limitless potential of our state’s future scientific leaders.”
