The UK’s science secretary has praised the “remarkable achievements” of an Oxfordshire science campus that has introduced 25 new businesses and created more than 300 jobs.
Andrew Griffiths MP toured the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus to mark the launch of the annual report.
He visited the RAL space operated by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).
The Harwell campus currently has 240 organizations and employs 7,000 staff.

The campus has welcomed new companies in the energy, health and space sectors over the past year.
Mr Griffiths said: “The impressive success of our Harwell campus, which has welcomed 25 new companies, is a testament to the thriving ecosystem we have cultivated.”
He added: “This growth not only positions us as a major player in global research and development, but also marks a major step forward towards our vision of a robust and innovative UK space sector.” he added.

Recent additions to Harwell operate in a wide range of sectors, including pharmaceuticals, space, agriculture and energy.
Moderna’s development site in Harwell contributed to almost a third of the space let across Oxfordshire in 2023.
The addition of the new company is consistent with Harwell’s expansion goals.
Neil Buchanan, co-founder and CEO of Lodestar Space, which will be added in 2023, said: “Being based at the Harwell campus is a game-changer for us. .
“Being on-site gives us access to the UK’s cutting-edge deep technology ecosystem, with our customers’ visits just a short walk away and world-leading testing facilities at our disposal. ”
The campus will add more than 440,000 square feet of new laboratory and research and development buildings.
The campus is home to one of the world’s largest national laboratories run by STFC, academia, and other established organizations.
The first two customers for STFC RAL Space’s National Satellite Test Facility in 2024 have already been confirmed.
Also, the opening of the National Center for Quantum Computing, a new institution funded through the government department UK Research and Innovation to accelerate the development of quantum computing, is scheduled for later this year.
