ANDROID owners will soon be able to take advantage of the text editing features that WhatsApp and iPhone users have had access to for years.
This new feature is essential for correcting mistakes and revising messages, but how do you access it?
It’s not fully functional yet, but it was discovered by eagle-eyed Android expert AssembleDebug in the latest beta of Google Messages.
However, AssembleDebug explained in a blog post that once it’s fully operational, users will be able to access this feature by long-pressing on the message they want to modify.
According to AssembleDebug, Google could roll out the feature to millions of users as early as late February, in the coming days.
Or it could be released early next month.
It’s important to note that the option to edit text sent in Google Messages is only provided for RCS conversations, not regular text messages.
Despite being around for decades, SMS does not support editing of sent text messages.
In August, Google Messages finally adopted RCS (Next Generation SMS).
This means users can now send high-quality Ultra HDR photos taken in the chat app.

Previously, Messenger lowered the quality to make it easier to send images.
Mehta-owned WhatsApp rolled out the same feature to its 2 billion users in early 2023.
Android Native Messenger has been slightly improved since 2023.
In September, Google redesigned the Messages home screen.
In November, the app began testing noise-cancelling features for calls and voice memos.
With Google following in Meta’s footsteps, some Android fans seem to be wondering if it will ditch WhatsApp, Viber, and Telegram for good.
