Millie Alcock wins lead role in ‘Supergirl’, James Gunn announces

After her breakthrough in "dragon house," Millie Alcock has been chosen to star in a new DC Studios movie. "Supergirl: Women of Tomorrow."

House of the Dragon breakout star Millie Alcock is the newest addition to the DC Universe.

The Australian actor has been cast as Supergirl, also known as Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El, in the upcoming film Supergirl: Women of Tomorrow, DC Studios CEO James Gunn said Monday. He confirmed this in a post on Instagram.

Gunn shared a screenshot of the Deadline article announcing the news in a post, writing, “This is accurate. Millie is an incredibly talented young actor and I can’t believe she will be part of the DCU. I’m so excited,” he wrote.

He added, “Yes, I first heard about her on ‘House of the Dragon,’ but I was blown away by her diverse auditions and screen tests on ‘Supergirl.'” The Guardians of the Galaxy director said Alcock embodies the character of Kara as envisioned by Supergirl: Women of Tomorrow author Tom King and illustrator Bilquis Evely. .

Shortly after Gunn’s social media announcement, Alcock shared his post to his Instagram Story, writing, “Oh thank you,” in all caps.

USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Warner Bros. for comment.

Alcock, who made her TV debut in 2014, played several roles before the 23-year-old landed her biggest role to date as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. He appeared in that series. Her co-star Emma Darcy played an older version of Rhaenyra in the second half of season one.

Other actors who have played Supergirl include Melissa Benoist (CBS and CW’s “Supergirl”) and Sasha Calle (2023’s “The Flash”).

Directed by Gunn, Superman: Legacy stars Isabella Merced (Hawkgirl), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and David Corenswet. (DC Universe’s New Superman) is currently in production. , scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
