KUALA LUMPUR: MCA chairman Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and former central committee member Tan Chong Seng will face a fierce battle for the party’s top post in the party polls later this month.
Dr Wee and Dr Tan submitted their nominations before the nomination process at Wisma MCA ended at 5pm on Monday (September 11).
Both the positions of party vice president and Wanita MCA deputy leader had only one contestant each.
This means that incumbent Datuk Dr Ma Han Soon will remain as vice president and Tee Phuey Lin will remain as deputy chief minister Wanita.
Wanita MCA chief Wong Yew Fong has defended his post in a showdown with Penang Wanita MCA chairman and Bayan Baru division chief Datuk Oy Siew Kim.
Seven candidates will be vying for the party’s four vice presidential positions.
They are incumbents Datuk Tan Teik Chiang, Datuk Lim Van Hong, Datuk Seri Thi Lian Kah, and newcomers Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Jek Seng and Datuk Dr. – Mr. Lawrence Loh, Ms. Datuk Nicole Wong Siaw Ting, and Dr. Pamela Yong.
Three candidates were running for the post of head of the party’s youth wing. They are party organization secretary Lin Tian Sun, who was also a member of Yong Peng City Council and Johor Exco, Daniel Wa Wai Hau, youth secretary general, and Bernard Chan Kee Siang, a member of the Klang MCA youth wing.
A total of 48 candidates competed for 25 Central Committee posts.
Voting for the MCA Youth and Wanita divisions was scheduled to take place on September 23rd, while the MCA Central Committee elections were scheduled to take place on September 24th.
The party polls will see 52,736 divisional delegates, including 29,151 MCA delegates. 5,016 MCA Youth and his 18,569 Wanita MCA Representatives.
A total of 160 polling stations will be set up across the country for the Central Committee elections, including 149 district polling stations and 11 joint district polling stations.
MCA will hold its annual general meeting on October 21st and 22nd.
