Yangor Southia Member of Parliament and Leader of the People First Party, Richard Maru, is a familiar face in government, its composition and political representation in the service and development of the people.
A former banker, he is running for the country’s top post.
Maru was in Morobe on Wednesday, yesterday and today to support the campaigning and rallies of the party’s five candidates.
He said new leadership was needed to save the country from financial ruin.
Maru endorsed candidates for Nawaeb, Kabuum, Bulolo, Wauwalia and Manyamiya constituencies in the 2022 general elections.
He said the people have seen the financial situation of the country and how it has been run under two different political parties.
In this election, the people need to elect a new Prime Minister with the managerial skills, knowledge and networks to bring in investment to increase revenues, ban all imports of what can be produced and processed locally, increase exports and ensure reserve businesses are awarded to locals and not foreigners.
Maru also supported the call by Madang Governor Sir Peter Yama and former Morobe Governor Luther Wenge to give Mamose the top job because the position had been in the highlands region for too long and the distribution of resources and funds had not been equitable.
“This country needs new, capable and visionary leadership. We need strong, determined leaders who will fight only for the interests of our people.”
“Our country cannot continue doing what we’ve been doing for the last 47 years and expect new, different results,” he said.
“We need to get creative, which is why this party is saying we are prepared to challenge a lot of what we have done in the past.
“It’s anyone’s game.
“The party has 32 candidates contesting various seats across the country. Our candidates are of good quality and have good reputations.”
“Everyone is paying attention to the two major parties (PANGU and PNC), but we don’t know who will win and the unexpected will happen.”
