HYDERABAD: The number of candidates vying for the post of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chairman seems to be on the rise.
According to sources, some of the big names vying for the TPCC chief post include former minister T Jeevan Reddy, Lok Sabha MPs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and A Revanth Reddy, and MP D Sridhar Babu.
Besides them, the names of former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha and AICC General Secretary SA Sampath have also been named. Both Raja Narasimha and Sampath have said they will work to strengthen the party if entrusted with the task by the party chief.
With the abolition of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, speculations are rife that the TPCC may be formed soon. The new TPCC may be formed in July. Leaders believe that the TPCC high command may announce the new TPCC chief by the end of the month.
If the high command takes into account the caste system, Jeevan Reddy, Venkat Reddy or Revanth Reddy may be selected. Since a Dalit was elected as the leader of the Indian National Congress, it is believed that the TPCC post may be given to another community.
Party sources said Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Revanth Reddy are vying for the TPCC chief post.
It may be recalled that Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy has been critical of the TPCC leadership and has held them responsible for the party’s poor performance in the state assembly elections. He has supported his brother Venkat Reddy for the post of TPCC president.
Party leaders are considering Sridhar Babu’s name for the TPCC chief post for various reasons. They feel that the next four years will be crucial for the party.
