Cotabato City – Two politicians from the Mangudadatus clan will compete in the Maguindanao gubernatorial election.
On Thursday morning, Governor Bai Mariam Sanki Mangudadatu, who is seeking her second term as governor, submitted her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) at the Udtog Tago Provincial Electoral Officer’s Office at the Bangsamoro Provincial Government Center.
The governor was accompanied by her husband, Sultan Kudarat Governor Suharto “Teng” Mangudadatu, and several supporters.
The governor, who is running for the Nationalist Party, told reporters he would continue to advocate “especially in terms of peace and development.”
Bayi Ayny Limbona Sinsat, wife of incumbent Maguindanao Vice Governor Lester Sinsat, will be the governor’s running mate.
Bangsamoro Congressman Sitti Shahara “Bai Dimple” Mastura also filed her COC for Maguindanao 1st Constituency, which includes the city.
Hours after the governor’s filing, Maguindanao 2nd District Rep. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu led a team to submit the COC at the Commission on Elections office here.
Mangudadatu’s group has the support and endorsement of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP).
“The people will decide in the upcoming elections who is best suited to serve the people for the next three years,” Mangudadatu said.
Mangudadatu and Sultan Kudarat Governor Suharto Mangudadatu are cousins.
Other UBJP candidates in Maguindanao are former Rep. Bai Sandra Sema, who is vying for the province’s vice governor post; Maguindanao 1st District Rep. Datu Loony Sinsuat, seeking reelection; and former Rep. Zajid G. Mangudadatu, seeking the province’s second congressional seat. (PNA)
