Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS) Science Bowl team members Amelia Draci, Aben Hebner, Rafa Rocha, Julia Zou, and Kevin Zou earn a victory for their school by winning the 2024 National Science Bowl® (NSB) regional competition. continued the tradition of I recently attended Albuquerque Academy. LAMS sent three teams to the tournament. All three teams advanced to the afternoon’s “double elimination” round. “My ‘Team 1’ was the winning team and was undefeated throughout the day’s games,” Science Bowl coach Amy Bartlett Gaunt said. “I’m so proud of everyone’s accomplishments in this competition. They’re amazing!”
LAMS Team 2 members are Eric Brown, Lea Herrera, Julia Neal, Lucia Rudin, and Maia Warren. Team 3 members are Haley Bischofberger, Cameron Davis, Michelle Roe, Sean Roe, and Emily Lueninghorner.
“Each year, this ‘one-of-a-kind competition’ attracts the most remarkable and inspiring students from across the United States,” said DOE Office of Science Director Asmeret Asefaw Bahhe, adding, “Los Alamos I would like to congratulate the junior high school team.” Advance to the national finals! NSB brings together thousands of middle school and high school students from across the country to solve technical problems and answer questions in a variety of scientific fields, including biology, chemistry, earth, space, and more in a fast-paced question-and-answer format. We will compete in Science, Physics and Mathematics.
The top two middle school and high school teams will receive $5,000 in prizes for their school’s math and science departments. Other schools that place in the top 16 at the national finals will receive her $1,000 award for their science department.
The winning team from each qualifying regional competition will be eligible to compete, all expenses paid, in the national final competition to be held in Washington, DC, April 25-29, 2024. This national event consists of several days of scientific activities and sightseeing, in addition to competitions.
Currently, NSB attracts more than 10,000 middle and high school competitors each year. Approximately 344,000 students have competed in the National Science Bowl® Finals since the first competition in 1991. The knowledge that former competitor They’re learning, and more importantly, the collaboration skills and study habits they’ve learned along the way are leading to success in a variety of fields. The 2024 contestants will follow in the footsteps of previous National Science Bowl® contestants and blaze a trail for science, math, and engineering students.
