BLACKFOOT – Collecting vintage items and making decorations from stained glass is something Sarah Schofield has enjoyed for years, and now she’s sharing that passion with others.

The Riverside woman launched Abode Light in October 2022 at 1241 Parkway Drive in Blackfoot. It’s a business where customers can create their own stained glass art or purchase antique homewares.

“A lot of people make them for themselves or give them as gifts, and it’s a lot of fun,” Schofield says of stained glass items. “It takes several hours. People come in groups or alone to learn new skills and receive art therapy.”

EastIdahoNews.com watched customers create Valentine’s Day wall hangings Wednesday afternoon. See what it’s like in the video above.

Schofield said word has been spreading about her store. There are many new faces introduced every month. She says people of all ages stop by and many become regulars.

Schofield discovered stained glass art many years ago. She began studying on her own, taking continuing education classes in Utah and eventually selling products on the side.

Opening her own store has been a lifelong dream, and when she and her husband moved to the area several years ago, he suggested it was time to make it a reality.

“I’m so glad I had the support of my family and was able to make my dream come true. I thought there would be more of a vintage element, but what’s really notable is the class,” Schofield says.

What she loves most is sharing art with people. Because she spent several hours teaching, she built connections with people during this process and made many friends in the process.

Gillian Bates knew Schofield before the shop opened and first came to support a friend, but it has since become a place she frequents.

“My life is noisy because I have seven children, but when I come here it’s quiet and peaceful. I get to do things outside of my comfort zone and learn something new. ” says Bates. “It’s fun to take home something you’ve made yourself.”

Bates highly recommends the experience and encourages people to come and try it.

Customers like the store’s cozy feel, but Schofield says it’s “bursting at the seams” because of the number of people attending classes. She plans to offer more advanced classes with larger projects in the near future.

Aboderite is open Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and closes at 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, but classes are available all week. Walk-in visits are also possible even when classes are in session.

To register for a class or for more information, please call Schofield at (208) 681-9834. You can also visit our Facebook and Instagram pages.
