Apple is expected to announce its iPhone 16 lineup later this year in September, and third-party case manufacturers have already begun developing designs for the upcoming device. Accessory manufacturers typically start manufacturing products before a device launches to save time and offer products pre-launch to stay ahead of the competition. Here, we take a first look at the iPhone 16 case and share design details of the device.
iPhone 16 case reveals standard model’s vertical camera layout, but the design isn’t brand new
Apple has been testing a wide range of designs for the iPhone 16 models over the past few months, and the company appears to be bringing back the iPhone X-like look. Despite some key differences, the overall design language is quite similar to the iPhone X, raising the question of whether the company has run out of ideas for future devices. Nevertheless, the new design gives the iPhone 16 a new look and feel compared to the current iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
We previously covered Apple’s choice of a vertical layout for the iPhone 16’s camera, and the design change could lead to enhanced features such as spatial video support on the new device. It can be seen in the image (via sonny dixon) The iPhone 16 case reportedly has a cutout that reflects the vertical layout of the camera. Compared to the iPhone X, the sensor size has increased over the past few years, so the vertical camera layout has become much larger.
The iPhone 16 is equipped with a wide sensor and an ultra-wide sensor inside a tablet-shaped plateau. The microphone is on the side of the camera, but the flash seems to be on the outside of the camera protrusion. Currently, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature a diagonal camera layout, a design that Apple introduced with his iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini.

Apart from the vertical camera layout, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus also include some additional changes that make the devices more functional while being more user-friendly. For example, we previously heard that the company plans to introduce an action button on all four iPhone 16 models, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro models. Other than this, past reports have suggested that Apple is planning to introduce a new capture button.
The capture button only responds to the iPhone 16 lineup’s camera function (potentially the video recording function). The capacitive nature of the button allows the capture button to register different commands in response to partial and full presses. Supposedly, pressing the button halfway will allow you to focus on the subject in the frame, and pressing it fully will act as a shutter button, similar to how a DSLR camera works. We will keep you informed of the latest information, so please check it out.
