LAKEFIELD — Lakefield will soon welcome a new auto repair business, Redman Auto Body Garage. Redman Auto Body Garage, located at 80500 Minnesota 86 and operating out of the same building as Diggs Deep Detailing, offers vehicle estimates, dent and hail repairs, and once the paint booth is open for business after completion. We plan to expand this to painting as well.
Owner Robert Redman said his interest in auto body repair began at an early age.
“I got interested in car bodies because I’ve always been interested in how you can take something that’s broken, dented, or faded and make it look like new,” Redman said. “It seemed like ‘black magic’ to me at the time. And then I realized that the car was so poorly repaired that I thought, ‘Why can’t it be better?’ ”
I tell my clients that if you do your job correctly, no one will ever know that something was repaired on your car. That way I know the job was done right and that’s my goal every time.

“So I made my career to do just that,” he added. “It has also been a dream of mine since high school to build and own my own body shop.”
Redman said he has been working toward owning his own auto body repair business since college.
“I attended college for auto body (repair) in Mankato and graduated at the top of my class. While in college, I competed in a statewide auto body contest and came in second place,” he said. “I’ve been in the auto body business for over 25 years. I’ve owned a body shop for his 12 years, co-owned it for 11 years, and now I’m finally pursuing my goal of building my own body shop literally from scratch. I achieved it.”
It was at a party that Redman met his friend and future business partner, Trey Diggs, owner of Diggs Deep Detailing and with whom he shares the building.
“Trey and I met a few years ago at a friend’s birthday party,” he said. “Our wives have actually known each other since elementary school. When I told him I was going to build an auto body shop building, he started talking about his dream of detailing cars. The more we talk, the more we talk. Everything started to come together. We will both achieve our lifelong dreams. It will be so rewarding to build on them together.”
Redman said the goal of his job is to make things look as if they never needed repairs.
“People say my attention to detail is over the top,” he said. “I tell my clients that if you do your job correctly, no one should ever know that something was repaired on your car. I know it’s done right and that’s my goal every time.”
