St. Philip Catholic School has announced Lucinda Knebel as its 2023-2024 Distinguished Graduate.
The Local Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually to a St. Philip Catholic School graduate who exemplifies what it means to live the school’s mission of “knowing, loving, and serving God and others.”
A 1975 graduate of St. Philip Catholic School, Ms. Knebel has a long resume, so here are some of the many ways she continues to fulfill the school’s mission. First, her giving has always been a no-brainer for her. Early in her working career, she was able to equip SPS with some of our first computers. As the company she worked for was upgrading its technology, she quickly realized that SPS could not afford to fall behind in terms of technology.
Eventually, the school received computers for students. Continuous support, both financial and emotional, is attracting attention.
There are few paintings of St. Philip over the years that Ms. Knobel has not participated in. Ms. Knobel is always happy to contribute and support local schools. The scholarship fund she regularly donates to is close to her heart as she recognizes that Catholic education is important for everyone. To further support her school, when her detergent and disinfectant supplies were in short supply a few years ago, she made sure her students and staff had what they needed.
She has been a member of St. Gabriel the Archangel in McKinney for 25 years and is very involved.
Ms. Knobel was the first president of the Saint Vincent de Paul Mission in her area. She held this position from her 2006 to her 2022. Under her leadership, she developed a strong group capable of addressing many needs.
During her tenure, nearly $100,000 was given to people in need each year.
It has become one of the region’s most important charities, providing financial assistance and counseling assistance to a growing number of families. She developed relationships with other agencies that assist the poor and supported the local Saint Vincent de Paul service. Texi-Gras, a major fundraiser for the ministry, was developed under her leadership.
She currently serves as a member of the team at St. Vincent de Paul and can be seen helping out as a Communion Server, Reconciliation Concierge, and Eucharistic Minister. She is always helping parishes and priests make sure they have what they need.
She is a member of the Holy Spirit Prayer Group and participates in another group that prays the Rosary every Saturday morning. She once invited St. Philip’s women to join the parish’s prayer group and attend several meetings. Her single act of invitation helped start the Upper Her Room prayer group here at El Her Campo, which ultimately benefited St. Philip Parish.
In 2023, St. Gabriel’s officially recognized the Diocese of Dallas’ volunteer award, the Bishop’s Award, for its accomplishments.
As St. Mother Teresa says, “Do the little things with great love.” We have personally experienced this with Lucinda in her SPS, as her faith is of paramount importance.
