Kharge, known as a Gandhi family loyalist, joined the fray at the eleventh hour. Several leaders, including from the G-23 faction, stood on either side of Mr. Kharji as he filed his nomination papers.
Madhusudan Mistry, chairman of the Congress Central Election Board, said on Friday that they had received a total of 20 nomination letters, adding that the Gandhi family does not support candidates for the party president’s post.
