The Department of Justice has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, alleging that Apple has established a monopoly on the iPhone, harming consumers, developers, and competitors.
“Each step of Apple’s course of action has created and strengthened a moat around its smartphone monopoly,” the government said in a lawsuit filed Thursday.
The Justice Department says Apple is blocking cross-platform messaging apps, restricting compatibility with third-party wallets and smartwatches, and interfering with non-App Store programs and cloud streaming services to keep consumers buying iPhones.
