Parties have March 25th deadline to appeal Judge McAfee’s ruling

The clock is ticking soon for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to appeal Judge Scott McAfee’s ruling allowing her to continue overseeing Trump’s election interference case.
Both Mr. Willis and the attorneys who brought the disbarment action may decide to appeal the ruling for a variety of reasons.
Under Georgia law, each side must first ask McAfee for permission to appeal the ruling, and McAfee must respond within the next 10 days. That period begins on Saturday and the deadline is March 25th.
If the judge agrees to issue a so-called “Certificate of Immediate Review,” the appealing party has an additional 10 days to request that the Georgia Court of Appeals accept the appeal. If the request is accepted, the appellate court will decide whether to file a lawsuit within 45 days.
The appellate court’s decision may be further appealed to the Georgia Supreme Court, which also has discretion in deciding which cases to hear.
Key context: Trump’s lawyers have already indicated they intend to pursue an appeal. The former president’s main strategy in the criminal case was to postpone the trial until after the November election. He has already succeeded in delaying the election-subversion case brought by Washington, D.C., special counsel Jack Smith.
