J.Crew is teaming up with USA Swimming for a limited-edition collection and campaign leading up to the Paris Summer Olympics.
The limited-edition collection will be available on jcrew.com, in stores and at select J.Crew Factory stores on Tuesday.
USA Swimming is the national governing body for competitive swimming in the United States. It is responsible for the selection of the USA Swimming Team and other teams officially representing the United States, as well as the overall organization and administration of swimming competitions in the country.
Designed by J.Crew’s design team with a focus on ’90s beach apparel and inspired by vintage swimming graphics and styling, the 18-piece USA Swimming x J.Crew collection features apparel and accessories for men, women and children. The lineup includes classic crewneck tees and sweatshirts, swimwear, windbreakers, bucket hats, baseball caps and limited-edition cashmere styles. Prices range from $32.50 to $248.
“The 2024 Summer Olympics will be an incredible global legacy for our brand, and as we look to the future, J.Crew will continue to pursue culturally significant moments with care and build on our rich history of collaborations,” said Libby Waddle, CEO of J.Crew Group.
She said she was excited to congratulate the athletes as they make their way to Paris and beyond.
Waddle said collaborations are in J.Crew’s DNA.
“We’re really looking for partners that connect with our heritage,” Waddle said. What she found “so magical” was finding a partnership that connected with the brand’s heritage, noting that the coastal lifestyle, swimming and water have always been part of the J.Crew brand, shown through catalogs, imagery and campaigns.
She added that the partnership “really evokes nostalgia for J.Crew and excitement for the summer of 2024 and the USA Swim Team.” This marks the first time J.Crew has collaborated with the USA Swim Team.
In addition to the collection, they developed a campaign spotlighting U.S. swimmers, telling their stories and personal journeys in and out of the pool, including Olympic medalists and world champions such as Jay Litherland, Olivia Smoliga, Dare Rose, Ryan White, Drew Kibler, Natalie Hines, Leah Smith, Claire Curzan and Kate Douglas.
“Our creative is based on storytelling, and we want collaborations that connect and tell our story in a really cool way. It’s great to have a collaboration that connects to the nostalgia of the brand, and in this case, with swimming, and our rich history in swimming, you’ll see the brand come alive with traditional looking swimwear that’s based on older swimwear from the ’90s. It really connects to the nostalgia and tradition of the brand, but feels really relevant to now,” Waddle said.
J.Crew’s most recent collaborations include a cashmere line with the New York City Ballet.
As part of the new partnership, J.Crew has made a donation to USA Swimming Foundation, the charitable arm of USA Swimming. The Foundation works to strengthen the sport by equipping children and adults with the life-saving skill of learning to swim, and provides financial support to and expands access to U.S. National Team athletes.
“J.Crew uniquely captures the classic American spirit, and USA Swimming is honored to partner with such an iconic brand,” said USA Swimming President Chris Brearton. “We’re grateful to J.Crew for partnering with us and supporting our athletes with elegance and style as they make their way along the road to Paris.”
The highlights of the collaboration will be on display at J.Crew’s Rockefeller Center and new Spring Street stores in New York, as well as USA Swimming’s Century City store in Los Angeles. The capsule collection will be available while supplies last.
“This partnership is unprecedented for us at J.Crew – it celebrates both the American brand and the incredible organization of USA Swimming and we feel it’s a natural fit and really authentic and iconic,” Waddle said.
