Ivan Puskovic secures Team USA a spot at the Paris Olympics in open water. Second US bid to be decided
For 14thAfter finishing first in the 10K open water event at the World Championships in Doha, Ivan Puskovic qualified to represent the United States in this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris. Puskovic recorded a time of 1 hour 48 minutes 54.4 seconds during the race at Doha Port, with Hungary’s Krzysztof Lasovski taking the gold medal.
Puskovich is a senior at West Virginia University after previously competing in college at the University of Southern California. A standout in his distance freestyle events in the pool, Puskovic has long been established as an elite performer in the open water discipline. His open water accomplishments have earned him multiple medals at the U.S. Championships and he has also been selected as a member of his team for the U.S. National Junior Championships.
Ends in 19 yearsth The first place world champion was American Michael Bullinger, a Tokyo Olympian. The United States has earned the second spot in the 10km open water event at the Paris Olympics, but it has not yet been determined who will take that spot.
On the women’s side, Katie Grimes and Mariah Dennigan qualified to represent the United States in the 10K competition at the Paris Games.
