IPHONE users are warning against common charging habits that are thought to extend the lifespan of their phones, but may not be as helpful as users think.

Modern smartphone batteries are surprisingly good compared to older models.

However, if you avoid common mistakes while charging your iPhone, it can last even longer.

It has long been thought that charging devices to 80% instead of 100% helps preserve battery health.

While many people praise this rule, others say it yields no real results and is a waste of time and effort.

The discussion recently resumed on Reddit, with one user sharing that he had been following the rules nonstop for months.

A user owns an iPhone 13 and said that the device was at 100% capacity for 8 months after just charging the battery to 80%.

This seems to have impressed some iPhone owners and they too believed in this method.

But those who weren’t convinced by the rules quickly joined in and shared their experiences.

“If you always follow the 20%-80% rule, you’ll only be using 60% of your iPhone’s usable space,” one person said.

“At that point, does it matter what percentage is ‘healthy’? In any case, you get less than 60%, lol,” they added.

“I used my iPhone 13 Pro for many hours every day with Optimized Charging turned off so I could charge it whenever I wanted, and it took about 8 months to reach 99% anyway.” a second user added.

Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro has new features that could save lives

“My product is over 2 years old. I don’t follow any stupid ‘guidance’ about charging. Mine is at 99% capacity,” chimed in another.

“Stop wasting your time worrying about your phone’s battery and instead do something worthwhile like going for a walk or reading a book,” they added.

A fourth official said, “This has nothing to do with the rules, but how you use it affects how well the battery deteriorates.”

If you research this topic, you’ll find that experts have different answers about the effectiveness of the 80% rule.

However, if you want to extend the battery life of your device, we have shared two tips below that have proven to be helpful.

iPhone battery tips

1. Don’t use your iPhone while charging

We’re all guilty of using our iPhones while charging, and this can cause major damage to your battery.

There is solid evidence that using your phone while connected to a charger not only shortens battery life, but also interrupts the charging cycle.

This is especially true if you’re charging your phone while playing games or watching videos.

2. Keep your iPhone cool

If you’re serious about conserving your iPhone’s battery and saving money in the long run, you need to cool your battery.

A cool iPhone not only helps preserve battery life but also improves the overall functionality and lifespan of your iPhone.

Specifically, when charging, you may want to leave your iPhone in a well-ventilated area or remove it from its case while recharging.

Additionally, avoid placing your phone on a hot dashboard or under your pillow while sleeping.
